Gender Identity & Sexuality Counselling

Have you been fighting something inside that you have known all your life?

It Can Be Tough Asking for Help.
You Have Just Taken the First Step.

Talking to a therapist can sometimes be looked upon with scepticism. Everyone is happy to use a doctor for their physical health but talking to a counsellor about their emotions is sometimes seen as weak, or worse, shameful.

Whether you feel confident and relaxed enough to tell friends and family, or you initially keep your visits to yourself, committing to regular sessions with a private counsellor is an investment in yourself and your future and present well being.

Are You Wondering,

"Do I Need Counselling?"

I work with both men and women on a spectrum of issues. Some issues are relatively specific, problems with addiction, obsessive behaviours, relationship problems. Other times it can take time to define, a lack of life direction, concerns about identity. If you have a feeling all is not well then get in touch and make some time for yourself.

How Can Counselling Help?

When you imagine yourself in 5 years time what do you see? Try to picture a life changed through investing the time with a counsellor in Oxford.

Imagine having the confidence to move forward with your goals without second guessing yourself every step of the way, feeling the freedom that only comes from having a deep sense of self belief.

Imagine getting to a stage where you and your partner are no longer lost in the small stuff and can work on the big stuff together. A relationship full of honesty and respect that you have cultivated together through couples counselling, or with skills that you have acquired yourself through your relationship therapy.

How Do I Choose a Counsellor?

How do you know if you will feel comfortable?

How do I know if I am the best counsellor to help you?

How do we know if we can work together?

How we get along together has been proven to be the key factor in whether therapy will be helpful for you, but the only way you can be completely sure is to meet me.

My belief is that there are three main things that contribute to the quality of the counsellor.

1. Counselling Training & Experience

I have a Diploma in Integrative Counselling from Minster Centre, which is particularly rigorous, challenging and demanding in a practical and academic way. I also received a Certificate in Couples Counselling from Re-Vision in London. I am an accredited member of BACP (British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists) and OTS (Oxfordshire Therapy & Self Development). I have been a therapist with Oxford Mens Counselling Service for 4 years and I have 7 years experience as an Integrative Counsellor.

2. Experience as a Client

Twelve years experience, on the other side of the process, as a client, has given me a strong belief in the transformative potential of therapy. It really can lead to powerful, substantial and lasting changes in how we are in the world. I have found this prepares and enables me to be able to help whatever comes up for you.

3. Life Experience – Ability to Continually Challenge, Learn and Grow

I have an interest in continual professional learning and inner exploration. Being aware of my process helps me to be more aware of yours. My work with OTS keeps me in touch with a working community of qualified therapists.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does therapy take?

How much does counselling cost?

Your experience in therapy will depend on many things, such as what point you are at in your life, why you have come along, your overall personal circumstances, and importantly how you view or get along with the therapist.

People will sometimes come to counselling knowing what specifically is troubling them. In these instances, short, solution-focused counselling could be the right way forward. Resolution could be found in six to eight sessions.

Other times, people arrive wanting to explore issues in their therapy that lie deeper within. They might engage in therapy for several months or even years.

I offer a reduced rate 50 minute initial session for £30. We can meet for the first time, I can listen to your story and you can ask any questions that you may have about the process. At the end of the first session, hopefully you will feel comfortable and we can look to the future. If you are still uncertain then we can meet for a second time, or, if you prefer I can suggest another counsellor to help you.

Your well being is always my priority and I want to ensure that you find the best person to help you, even if that is not me.

“I offer patience and understanding, in a confidential, safe and secure environment. Each person is an individual with their own issues. These can range from short term work on a specific problem to longer term therapy exploring wider issues, all at a pace guided by you.”
